Iran and Belarus tourism ministers collaborate to enhance Tehran-Minsk partnership

The Iranian Minister of Tourism, Ezzatollah Zarghami, has emphasized the importance of strengthening relations between Iran and Belarus. In order to promote tourism between the two countries, the has proposed initiatives such as establishing direct flights and simplifying the visa process.

Iran (IMNA) - Zarghami believes that by removing barriers and conditions for travelers, tourism between Iran and Belarus can flourish. He suggests adopting a similar approach to Iran's visa requirements for travel groups, as seen in the case of Russia. This would be a positive step towards facilitating tourism between the two nations.

Furthermore, Zarghami expressed Iran's warm welcome to Belarusian tourists. Iran is prepared to organize special familiarization tours to showcase its tourism potential to visitors from Belarus.

To enhance tourism cooperation, the minister also proposed collaborative efforts in areas such as loans, joint exhibitions, documentation of ancient properties, and the exchange of expertise in restoration, archaeology, and cultural heritage.

These statements were made just prior to the visit of the Iranian Vice President to Belarus, which is scheduled for tomorrow.

Mohammad Mokhber, Iran's first vice president, is scheduled to visit Belarus for high-level discussions with the country's officials. The invitation for this visit was extended by the Belarusian prime minister.

Iran was among the first nations to acknowledge Belarus' independence and establish diplomatic relations on February 16, 1993. Following this, the Iranian ambassador to Ukraine was appointed as the accredited ambassador to Belarus.

According to Zarghami, Iran has experienced a tourism growth rate three times higher than the global average in the post-Covid era. "Due to the restrictions imposed by the Corona pandemic, the number of tourist arrivals has significantly increased in the past two years," he stated last month. However, the minister did not provide specific details regarding the number of international arrivals in the country.

As per the latest United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) World Tourism Barometer, foreign tourist arrivals in Iran reached approximately 2.93 million between January and July 2023.
