Iran (IMNA) - In words made public on Thursday, Ali Salajegheh said that the Empty Quarter, a region in southern Saudi Arabia, is to blame for a third of the sand and dust storms that enter Iran through its southwestern borders and afflict a sizable portion of the country during dry seasons.
According to the Iranian environment minister, Iran and Saudi Arabia's reconciliation will allow them to work closely and directly together on important environmental challenges, such as sand and dust storms.
He stated that a delegation from Saudi Arabia would be in attendance at the September 9–10 International Conference on Combating Sand and Dust Storms in Tehran.
The summit, which will be conducted under the auspices of the United Nations, will have representation from about 50 nations and 15 international organizations.
According to Salajegheh, if Iran and Saudi Arabia establish a definitive agreement, experts from the two countries will participate in a coordinated operation to combat sand and dust coming from the Empty Quarter desert.
