Malaysia would never accept harsh US sanctions on Iran, says FM

Malaysian Foreign Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir has stated that his country opposes US sanctions against Iran and that Malaysia will never acknowledge the harsh measures.

Iran (IMNA) - Zambry referred to Iran as Malaysia's "very important partner" in the region and the Muslim world during a meeting with Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi on Tuesday in Tehran.

Additionally, he praised his "positive" encounters with Iranian authorities when visiting Tehran from August 20 to August 23.

In addition, Zambry urged the expansion of bilateral ties, particularly in the industries of agriculture, health, research, and technology.

For his part, Raeisi claimed that creating a long-term strategy for strategic collaboration between Iran and Malaysia will "open up new horizons" in the two countries' relations.

In a meeting on Monday, Zambry and Amir-Abdollahian discussed the need to strengthen connections between Iran and Malaysia as well as several important domestic and global concerns.

They also agreed to expedite the exchange of detainees and the extradition of offenders.

The Iran-Malaysia Joint Economic Commission will conduct a meeting in Tehran soon, according to the Iranian foreign minister, and its subcommittees will hold regular meetings to address consular, commercial, economic, and cultural matters as well as the battle against terrorism.

He mentioned that diplomatic attempts were being made to arrange trips for the Malaysian prime minister and President Raeisi to Tehran and Kuala Lumpur, respectively.
