Iran (IMNA) - On Sunday, the two chargés d'affaires were called individually by the Deputy Director General of Iran's Foreign Ministry's Human Rights Department.
The Iranian diplomat strongly denounced the ongoing practice of blatant and barbaric acts of insulting the Muslim holy book in those two countries, saying that the Islamic Republic believes the governments of Sweden and Denmark bear full responsibility and serious consequences for this blasphemous move.
The official further advised against continuing these "conspiratorial and dangerous" practices, citing earlier words by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution that backing criminals and desecrators of the Holy Qur'an is akin to declaring war on the Muslim world.
He also asked the two envoys to uphold international commitments based on Articles 19 and 20 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), emphasizing that freedom of speech entails particular responsibilities and obligations.
The government representative concluded his words by saying that, despite the explicit position and serious determination of the world's freedom-seeking scholars in condemning the sacrilegious act, Sweden and Denmark have remained apathetic to adhering to the resolutions approved by the Human Rights Council and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in this regard.
"Unfortunately, they continue to support desecrators by not demonstrating serious determination and intention in dealing with hate speech and Islamophobia," he stated.
