Last year's riots planned by US, some European countries: Iran's president

The United States and a few European countries have come under fire from Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi for organizing the riots that erupted throughout the country last year.

Iran (IMNA) - Raeisi made the comments during a meeting on Monday with the members of a committee formed to look at different aspects of the riots in 2022.

"By engineering the riots, the United States, several European states, and [Iran's] foes mistreated the Iranian country and targeted security, peace, businesses, and [our] beloved people's minds. But through their being resolute, our people thwarted their [plan]," the Iranian president remarked.

Raeisi emphasized that during the course of the probe, not a single individual should suffer any injustice.

One of the committee's most crucial responsibilities, he continued, is to give a "correct and fair narrative" of those episodes, one that is based on facts, records, and eyewitness testimonies and is free of any prejudice.

The Iranian president continued by saying that compensation must be given to everyone whose rights were infringed upon during the riots or who suffered injury of any kind.

Last September, following the passing of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian lady, protests with foreign backing erupted in Iran.

She passed out at a police station in Tehran's capital city and was declared dead three days later. The Iranian Legal Medicine Organization's official assessment found that Amini's death was brought on by disease rather than the claimed blows to the skull or other important body parts.

According to Iran's intelligence agency, the United States and the United Kingdom utilized their spies and media networks to incite violent protests across Iran.

Rioters went on the rampage, viciously assaulting security personnel and severely damaging the country’s infrastructure.
