Terrorist attack on Shah Cheragh shrine in Iran

At least one person was martyred and eight people were injured in an armed terrorist attack on the Shah Cheragh shrine in Shiraz, Iran's southernmost city.

Iran (IMNA) - According to state media, two terrorists were involved in the shooting on Sunday. One of the attackers was apprehended. The other is thought to be on the run.

Three of those injured in the incident were critically injured. Terrorists attempted to gain access to the shrine via the Bab al-Mahdi Gate.

According to Iran's Nour News, which is associated with the Islamic Republic's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), the two terrorists were "foreign nationals."

One of the terrorists opened fire on the pilgrims with a Kalashnikov before being apprehended, while the other escaped the area.

The Daesh terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the horrific attack.

Last year, armed terrorists carried out a similar attack on Shiraz's Shah Cheragh shrine.

An armed terrorist stormed the site on October 26, 2022, murdering 15 pilgrims, including women and children, and wounding scores more before being shot and killed by security authorities.

The terrorist later died in a hospital from his injuries. Several suspects were detained quickly, and the Intelligence Ministry confirmed the arrest of 26 Takfiri terrorists for their involvement in the assault two weeks later.
