Strong Tehran-Baghdad connections, according to Iran, will assure long-term regional security

According to Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, improved ties between Iran and Iraq will promote regional stability and growth.

Iran (IMNA) - On Sunday in Tehran, Amir-Abdollahian met with Jeanine Antoinette Plasschaert, the UN secretary general's special envoy for Iraq.

According to him, Tehran and Baghdad have cordial, all-encompassing ties and collaboration.

The senior Iranian diplomat stated that Iraq is crucial to regional developments, citing the strong and positive ties between the two neighbors.

Amir-Abdollahian emphasized the need to enhance security in border regions and urged Tehran and Baghdad to carefully follow a security agreement that the two countries had previously signed.

On March 19, in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, Iran and Iraq inked a security deal that calls for cooperation in guarding their shared border.

Iran has played an important and helpful role in the events in Iraq, according to Plasschaert, who also serves as the chief of the UN assistance mission for Iraq.
