For blasphemy of Qur'an, Ayatollah Khamenei calls for "severest punishment"

The leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has called for the "severest punishment" for the perpetrator responsible for the desecration of the Holy Qur'an in Sweden.

Iran (IMNA) - “Effrontery to the sacred realm of the Holy Qur’an in Sweden is a bitter, conspiratorial, and dangerous incident. The severest punishment for the perpetrator of this crime is the consensus view of all Islamic scholars,” the Leader said in a message on Saturday.

“The Swedish government should also know that by supporting a criminal, it has taken a war stance against the Islamic world and attracted the hatred and enmity of the Muslim nations and many of their governments,” the Leader said.

“The responsibility of that government is to hand over the perpetrator of the crime to the judicial systems of Islamic countries,” Ayatollah Khamenei said. “The conspirators behind the scenes should also know that the sanctity and grandeur of the Holy Qur’an will increase day by day and the lights of its guidance will become brighter," the Leader said.

“The likes of this conspiracy and its perpetrators are too lowly to be able to prevent this ever-increasing brilliance,” he added.

A Christian extremist's desecration of the Qur'an in Stockholm has led to significant protests and outrage throughout the Muslim world.

The protests are in response to Swedish police allowing the guy residing in Stockholm to desecration the Qur'an for a second time on Thursday.

People have held large protests to denounce the blasphemous conduct in Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Lebanon, and other nations.

To express their rage at the sacrilegious conduct, protesters in Baghdad stormed into the Swedish embassy on Thursday and burned a portion of it on fire.

The Iraqi government asked the Swedish ambassador to leave because they allowed the Holy Qur'an to be disrespected.

After Friday prayers, millions of believers descended into the streets of Iran in the sweltering heat.

Iran won't accept a new Swedish ambassador, according to Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, unless Sweden takes "serious and effective measures to deal with the continuous violation of Islamic sanctities."

In a phone conversation with the OIC's secretary general, Hissein Ibrahim Taha, the minister also requested an urgent OIC meeting to examine the sacrilege.

The Swedish ambassador to Iran was summoned by the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Thursday to express the Islamic Republic's vehement disapproval of the sacrilegious behavior.
