Iran (IMNA) - A day after an Iraqi immigrant living in Sweden desecrated the Muslim holy book during a protest outside the Iraqi embassy in Stockholm under the tight protection of the Swedish police, large-scale protests were staged in major Iranian cities on Friday.
The barbaric crime sparked widespread outrage among Muslims throughout the world, and the Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the Swedish ambassador to Tehran to express the Islamic Republic's fervent opposition to it.
According to Seyyed Mohsen Mahmoudi, the deputy head of the Islamic Development Coordination Council, "the repeated desecration of the Holy Qur'an in Sweden, with the approval of the country's government, has hurt the feelings of the Muslim world and followers of monotheistic religions."
Mahmoudi stated that the Islamic world must denounce this horrible deed and that the Iranian nation would do so on Friday in response to the actions of this "mercenary agent supported by the Swedish government."
"The Muslim world must confront this ignorant government with all its might," the official added, urging Iran's Foreign Ministry to take urgent action against the sacrilegious action.
Momika has disrespected the Qur'an twice before with the permission of the Swedish government. On June 28, he burned a copy of the holy book, sparking similar violent demonstrations around the Muslim world and prmping the Iranian Foreign Ministry to call Sweden's chargé d'affaires.
