Iran (IMNA) - During a meeting of a working group on the construction of nuclear facilities on Tuesday, Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Mohber underlined the government's solid determination to build the power plants, emphasizing the importance of determining a finance mechanism for the project.
"The path of constructing nuclear power plants should lead the country to transfer technology and upgrade technical knowledge, so that we gradually move towards self-sufficiency… in all stages of construction and engineering," he continued.
Mohammad Eslami, the chairman of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI), who was also present at the conference, stated that so far, five locations have been designated for the building of power plants.
He stated that preliminary steps and preparations for the project had been made, and that in certain cases, executive activities had commenced following the signing of contracts with local firms.
Iran has made significant progress in its peaceful nuclear energy program in recent years, despite US sanctions and other obstacles imposed by the West.
As an adhering member to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), the nation has also been closely collaborating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
