According to FAO, Iran's grain stockpile increased by 5.9% in 2022

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Iran's grain storage increased by about 6% last year, despite restrictions on world grain supply caused by the Ukraine war and US sanctions that limit Iran's customary access to global grain markets.

Iran (IMNA) - Excerpts from the FAO's newest global food outlook report, which were published on Saturday in local Iranian news media, revealed that Iran's grain storage capacity reached 12.5 million metric tons (mt) last year, up 5.93% from 2021.

It stated that Iran will be responsible for 1.5% of the world's total grain supply in 2022, and that the country possessed the world's seventh biggest grain stocks last year.

According to the report's results, grain storage in Egypt, a country with a population greater than Iran, was roughly 4.3 million mt last year.

According to FAO, Iran's grain stockpile increased by 5.9% in 2022

According to FAO, Iran's total grain output in 2022 was 20.6 million mt, of which 13 million mt was wheat, with wheat production predicted to climb to 13.5 million mt this year.

As reported by UN Food and Agriculture Organization, Iran's rice output would fall by half a million metric tons to 3 million metric tons in 2023, while its supply of other grains will stay steady at 4.1 million metric tons.

The results come as Iran continues to face American sanctions that limit its access to routine grain commerce in foreign markets.

It also comes despite the fact that the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine has had a severe influence on the global supply of grains, leaving several nations facing shortages.
