Iran (IMNA) - The statements were made by Ebrahim Raeisi during a televised interview on Tuesday to honor the second anniversary of his election as the nation's leader.
He argued that it was more crucial for us to fortify the country to a point of power that would make it resistant to sanctions.
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which Iran and other countries signed in 2015, has been revived via discussions. With the help of the agreement, the Islamic Republic was given some respite from its sanctions, and in return, it offered to modify part of its peaceful nuclear activity.
Under the administration of former President Donald Trump, the US withdrew from the accord in 2018, reimposing all the sanctions that it had previously eased.
As a result of Washington's unwillingness to provide assurances that it would not back out of the accord again, the negotiations have stagnated.
The foreign policy of Iran
Raeisi later addressed the topic of Iran's foreign policy during his presidency.
He insisted that the Islamic Republic shouldn't restrict its international connections to a particular number of nations to the exclusion of others, saying that Iran has been pursuing "balanced and consistent" relations with the whole globe throughout his presidency.
The Iranian president said that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which is likely to welcome the Islamic Republic as a full member, granted Iran's request for membership in the transcontinental alliance due to its similar foreign policy stance.
"We will collaborate with any country that seeks to develop friendly, respectful ties with us. And if any rare countries—like the United States—try to oppose us, we will use resistance to defeat them.
Referring to Iran's neighborhood policy, Raeisi stated that since the start of his administration, Iran has extended a hand of friendship to all nations that share a similar sentiment and are supportive of the Islamic Republic.
