Iran (IMNA) - On an official invitation from his equivalent, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, who is also the prime minister of Qatar, Amir-Abdollahian departed Tehran for the capital of Qatar late on Monday.
Iran's top diplomat is traveling with a team that includes the foreign minister's staff members, Nasser Kanani, the spokesperson for the foreign ministry, and a member of the foreign policy and national security committee of the Iranian parliament.
His travel to Qatar comes after the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, Mohammad Reza Farzin, made a similar trip to Doha last week. Iran's top banker met with Qatari officials to examine measures to improve the two nations' monetary, financial, and economic ties.
After his discussions in Qatar, Amir-Abdollahian is planned to go to Muscat, the capital of Oman.
The Iranian foreign minister stated in an early-morning tweet on Tuesday that his travels to Qatar and Oman are intended to further advance ties with those nations and carry out the agreements made by the high-ranking officials of the three countries.
He pointed out the enormous economic, commercial, and political potential enjoyed by Iran's neighbors.
Amir-Abdollahian stated that one of the fundamental tenets of the Iranian administration's foreign policy theory is the continual expansion of all-out connections with neighbors.
In a phone chat earlier in June, the foreign ministers of Iran and Qatar covered a wide variety of topics, from enhancing relations to the most recent regional developments.
