Iran (IMNA) - On Sunday, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the president of Uzbekistan, was greeted by Ayatollah Khamenei in Tehran.
The Leader said that the two nations had distinct historical, cultural, and scientific traits in common.
After a protracted suspension, Ayatollah Khamenei praised the beginning of a new chapter in bilateral ties and said that Iran and Uzbekistan's cooperation had previously been "very limited."
The Leader expressed the hope that President Mirziyoyev's trip and talks with top Iranian authorities will pave the way for improved relations in the future.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran is capable of connecting Uzbekistan to the high seas via Turkmenistan and Afghanistan." And the reasons for bilateral cooperation go beyond commerce and transportation," said Ayatollah Khamenei.
According to the Leader, advancements in a range of scientific and technical domains can lead to improved collaboration.
Ayatollah Khamenei has advised Tehran and Tashkent to ignore those who are opposed to expanding relations.
Mirziyoyev highlighted his historic encounter with Ayatollah Khamenei at the meeting, which was also attended by President Ebrahim Raeisi.
The Uzbek president commended Iran's tenacity in the face of US-led sanctions, saying the country's great achievements, notably in science and technology, demonstrated that a nation can achieve great things by following the wise guidance of its leader and working together.
