The most prominent Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami with his masterpiece The Taste of Cherry won the Palme d'Or, was introduced to the international audience after attending Cannes and earning awards in different competition categories."

"Each year, the latest significant films of Iranian cinema are featured in this prestigious cinematic event, and film lovers and enthusiasts of the art, journalists, critics, and cinema screenwriters, and overall, the cast and crew of global cinema sit to watch them for the first time, later to be assessed and judged by the jury of the competition category," Jahani commented on the participation of notable works of Iranian filmmakers in various editions of Cannes.
