Iranian hospitals serve 1.2 million international patients

According to Iran's Health Minister, Bahram Einollahi, the country has achieved significant development in the health sector since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, with over 1.2 million foreign patients treated in Iranian hospitals last year.

Iran (IMNA) - At a gathering of the Islamic Republic of Iran's top diplomats abroads on Sunday, Einollahi declared, "Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the best countries in the field of health, not only in the region but also in the world."

Einollahi stated, "Last year, we treated more than 1,200,000 foreign patients in the country's hospitals, the majority of whom were from Afghanistan, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Turkey, India, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Lebanon, and Tajikistan." Einollahi was referring to a study of 7,000 foreign students in the field of health in Iran.

The increase of medical tourism in Iran was mentioned by the minister. "The most common diseases that encourage health tourists to visit Iran are those related to gynecology and obstetrics, eye surgery, orthopedics, cosmetic surgery, cardiovascular diseases, urology, unnecessary medical treatments, general surgery, cancers, and trauma."

Health tourists recognize that Iranian doctors are extremely qualified and professional, according to Einollahi.

Tourists choose Iran for medical care because of the country's "low cost and high quality of treatment with the use of modern technologies, new treatment methods, cultural and historical similarities, easy access, and tourist attractions."

Einollahi emphasized the need for establishing a "safe corridor" for the transport of foreign patients to Iran and stated that 233 Iranian medical facilities have obtained extendable international accreditation certifications for medical tourism.

Einollahi claimed that in 2022, the Islamic Republic took first place in West Asia in terms of science. Iran is ranked 15th in the world in terms of medical science, and The country’s 40 institutions offer medical education that is highly internationalized.

According to the Iranian minister, "Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran not only has hard power, but our soft power is a great capacity that must be diligently heeded, and the use of this capacity is possible and a breakthrough in health diplomacy."
