Iran(IMNA) - According to figures released on Tuesday by the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA), overall steel output in Iran climbed by 1% year on year in April.

According to the data, Iran's semi-finished steel output climbed by 6% in the calendar month to late April, reaching 3.063 million metric tons (mt).

Based to the latest statistics, the amount of sponge iron production—also known as direct reduced iron—reached 3.407 million mt in Iran in the month of late April, which is a rise of 5% over the same period last year.

According to the ISPA, Iran's long steel production climbed by 4% year on year in April to 0.997 million mt, while steel sheet output fell by 2% year on year to 0.851 million mt.

Pursuant to the numbers, Iran generated 1.848 million mt of completed steel products in the calendar month ending late April, a 1% increase year on year.

Iran is the world's tenth largest steel manufacturer. Steel production and exports have expanded in recent years, owing mostly to increasing government assistance for the sector in reaction to US sanctions on the country's oil exports.
