Iran to get first set of Russian-made SU-35 fighter planes

According to a source, Iran will receive the first shipment of Russian SU-35 fighter aircraft the following week.

Iran (IMNA) -In the face of severe Western sanctions, Tehran and Moscow have started to strengthen their relationship. In recent months, Iran and Russia have inked significant agreements to expand their economic, commercial, energy, and military ties.

There have been media claims in recent months stating that Iran has received SU-35 aircraft from Russia.

Iran's permanent representative to the UN declared in March that an agreement to buy the plane had been signed and sealed. At the time, 24 of the aircraft were to be sent to Iran, according to Iranian media sources.

The fighter jets will come in the current Iranian calendar year, which started on March 21, according to Shahriar Heidari, a member of the Iranian parliament's national security and foreign policy panel.

According to Heidari, Iran will soon get Russian air defense systems, missile systems, and helicopters.

Except for a few Russian MiG-29 Fulcrum fighters purchased in the 1990s, Iran has not purchased any new fighter aircraft in recent years.

Aside from the MiG-29, the IRIAF mostly employs locally modified F-4 Phantom II, F-14 Tomcat, and F-5E/F Tiger II jets from the 1970s that were given to the deposed US-backed Pahlavi administration before to the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
