Iranian engineers restarted grid at Bushehr nuclear reactor

Iran's sole nuclear power plant has been restored to the country's electrical grid following a self-contained refurbishment and refueling procedure.

Iran (IMNA) - The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said on Wednesday that the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, located on the Persian Gulf coast over 1,200 kilometers south of Tehran, had begun delivering energy to the national power system two days earlier.

It stated that local specialists, technicians, businesses, and contractors played a significant part in the plant's refurbishment and refueling procedure, which began in mid-February.

According to the AEOI, the overhaul program comprised annual replacement of fuel rods as well as frequent inspections.

In a Wednesday statement, Iran Grid Management Company (IGMC) also stated that the Bushehr reactor was producing energy to the national power grid at full output capacity of 1 gigatonne per hour.

It claims that the production is sufficient to meet the electrical needs of a one-million-person city in warm southern Iran.

Iran intends to build more reactors at the Bushehr power station in order to improve the facility's electrical output.

Authorities believe the country has to boost its nuclear power capacity to meet rising electrical demand in the residential and industry sectors.
