Iran warns United States, Israel of provocative actions against its nuclear program

The permanent representative of Iran to the UN has reaffirmed Tehran's right to retaliate against any Israeli action against the country's nuclear program and has threatened to hold the US accountable for openly backing such terrorist crimes.

Iran (IMNA) - Days after US national security advisor Jake Sullivan said Washington would do whatever was necessary to thwart Iran from acquiring a "nuclear weapon," including by recognizing Israel's freedom of action, Amir Saeid Iravani made the statements in a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the head of the Security Council on Tuesday.

Without a doubt, this reckless, aggressive declaration, which threatens to use force against a member state of the UN's peaceful nuclear facilities, breaches the laws of the world and the UN Charter, in particular Article 2(4), according to Iravani.

An admission of responsibility by the US for its role in aiding, facilitating, and supporting Israel's terrorist and sabotage operations against Iranian officials, scientists, civilians, and peaceful nuclear facilities is implied by such a statement, which also suggests that the US may be complicit in any future acts of terrorism or aggression committed by the Israeli regime against Iran, including against its peaceful nuclear facilities.

The envoy urged Washington to stop "propagating false allegations and misinformation" about Tehran's nuclear activities, noting that the claim that the US will not permit Iran acquire nuclear weapons is "a distortion of reality and another cynical attempt" to advance the American political agenda.

"Iran reaffirms [its] commitment to international responsibilities and the peaceful nature of [its] nuclear program. The Islamic Republic has consistently insisted that its pursuit of nuclear technology is solely for peaceful purposes and that it has never tried to produce nuclear weapons and never will.”

"This is the government's firm and unwavering decision," he said, "and… any claim to the contrary is completely baseless and void."

Iravani also emphasized Iran's right to self-defense in the event of an attack on its nuclear facilities.
