Iran addressing social problems, poverty in urban areas

Iran has a statewide effort to combat poverty and other social and health concerns in the country's so-called "left-behind" regions of major cities.

Iran (IMNA) -The head of Iran's Headquarters for Empowering City Districts, Ali Aghamohammadi, revealed on Monday that 2,020 neighborhoods across different Iranian cities have been identified as part of an initiative to provide social and economic help to inhabitants in poor neighborhoods.

According to Aghamohammadi, who is the chairman of the economic group in the office of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, significant Iranian government entities have been tasked with empowering inhabitants in backward boroughs.

He said that 440 municipal districts across Iran's SETAD, a potent economic institution with charitable wings, had been providing relief to its citizens.

The official further mentioned that the Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation and the Iran Red Crescent Society have been functioning in several other boroughs to offer people social and financial support.

According to Aghamohammadi, Iran's national policy on city districts aims to implement infrastructure and urban planning initiatives in communities to assist combat poverty there.
