Raeisi calls for greater efforts to strengthen political, economic connections between Iran, Uzbekistan

Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi believes civilizational and cultural affinities between Iran and Uzbekistan have provided a suitable platform for expanding economic cooperation, asking the two nations to make additional efforts to strengthen politico-economic relations.

Iran (IMNA) - "The development of political and economic relations between Iran and Uzbekistan in the last year has changed the situation in comparison to the past," Raeisi said during a meeting with Nuriddinjon Ismailov, Chairman of Uzbekistan's Legislative Chamber, in Tehran on Saturday.

He also stated that Iran and Uzbekistan had inked 18 agreements and memorandums of understanding to strengthen cooperation, noting that accelerating their implementation will significantly improve relations.

"The exchange of experience between the parliaments of Iran and Uzbekistan will be an effective and positive step towards the development of relations between the two countries," Iranian President stated.

Ismailov, for his part, praised Iran's foreign policy, which prioritizes the growth of relations with neighbors, and stated that Uzbekistan, too, supports the extension of connections with adjacent nations.

He went on to say that the two countries' legislatures should play an active role in increasing government-to-government collaboration.

Ismailov stated that Uzbekistan's parliament will undoubtedly use all of its capacities to carry out the agreements reached between the two countries.
