Iran's petroleum production to increase by 14.2% till March

A high-ranking official with the government-owned National Petrochemical Company (NPC) disclosed that Iran has plans to expand its overall yearly output of petrochemicals by around 14.2% in the calendar year up to late March.

Iran (IMNA) - Hassan Abbaszadeh, the head of planning and development at NPC, stated on Tuesday that Iran's annual production of petrochemicals is anticipated to increase to 80 million metric tons (mt), from the 70 million mt recorded for the year up until late March this year.

According to Abbaszadeh, the Iranian petrochemical sector has an annual production capacity of around 93 million mt, and the feedstock provided to plants countrywide amounts to about 47.5 million mt, about 70% of which is natural gas.

As reported by NPC representative, Iran sold almost 40 million metric tons (mt) of petrochemical goods worth $27 billion in the year to late March, of which about 28 million mt were exported, bringing in $16 billion monetary revenue for the country.

He stated that the majority of expansion plans for the Iranian petrochemical sector will center on increasing output of six main products, including ethylene and propylene.

He pointed out that Iran's present output capacity for basic petrochemicals is roughly 58 million mt, making the country the region's second largest provider of such items behind Saudi Arabia.
