Iran (IMNA) - Gholamhossein Shafei praised the two nations' decision to reopen bilateral ties after a seven-year hiatus in an official letter to the head of the Council for Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday.
He stated that Iran's business sector is willing to exchange trade and economic delegations with Saudi Arabia, and that conducting joint trade exhibitions will help to strengthen bilateral economic relations.
The establishment of trade, commercial, and industrial cooperation between the two countries' private sectors, as well as a visit by an economic delegation from Iran's private sector to Saudi Arabia, according to Shafei, could significantly speed up the realization of the two countries' governments' desire to normalize bilateral relations.
Iran and Saudi Arabia decided to reestablish diplomatic relations and reopen their embassies on March 10, following several days of rigorous discussions sponsored by China.
Following the signing of the deal, Tehran and Riyadh issued a joint statement emphasizing the need of respecting each other's national sovereignty and refraining from intervening in one another's internal affairs.
