Iran (IMNA) - Mehrdad Bazrpash, Iran's transportation minister, said on Sunday that Saudi officials have urged Iran to start three regular flights each week to the Arab kingdom.
According to Bazrpash, the flights will be started despite of current agreements between the two nations about flights conveying Iranian pilgrims to the hajj rite in Saudi Arabia.
Claimed by Bazrpash, the flights will be started considering of current agreements between both countries about flights conveying Iranian pilgrims to the hajj rite in Saudi Arabia.
The minister stated, "Launching flights between Iran and Saudi Arabia, in addition to hajj flights, has been taken into account in order to broaden collaborations," adding that Iran will make every effort to launch the flights.
The statement coincides with Saudi Arabia and Iran's intentions to reopen their embassies and resume diplomatic relations, seven years after the two countries severed their formal ties.
The proposal is based on a deal reached by China in early March, which said that the two Muslim countries' embassies should reopen by May 9.
According to experts, the reconciliation between Iran and Saudi Arabia might open the way for a significant growth of the two nations' economic and trading links.
