Amir-Abdollahian emphasized Tehran's determination to further strengthening ties with Japan, which have a long history, according to a statement released by Iran's foreign ministry.

According to the statement, the Japanese foreign minister emphasized the value of good relations between Tehran and Tokyo.

The two senior diplomats also addressed ongoing attempts to resurrect the nuclear agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The talks to resurrect the pact, underway in Vienna since April 2021, have been stuck since last August owing to the Joe Biden administration's strategy of procrastination and foot-dragging in Washington.

Yoshimasa also expressed satisfaction with the "positive trend" of collaboration between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), citing recent talks between IAEA officials and Iranian officials to simplify cooperation.

The senior Iranian diplomat reaffirmed Tehran's opposition to the year-long war during the ministers' discussion of the Ukraine crisis.

Iran's foreign policy has shifted eastward under President Ebrahim Raeisi's administration, emphasizing the necessity of strengthening connections with Asian nations such as Japan.
