Iran (IMNA) - Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kan'ani made the statements in a late Sunday tweet in response to the United States' intention to deploy a nuclear-powered guided-missile submarine to the region and relocate a warship in the Mediterranean to the coast of Syria.
"Regular reports about [the US] dispatching a submarine, moving battleships, or sending bombers to West Asia, under circumstances where the new regional equations point to the formation of a new order in which there is no need for extra-regional military forces, are part of the US government's attempt to cover up the decline of its global power," he claimed
"The American regime is acting against the will of regional countries through frequent warmongering and [efforts to] foment instability and discord in the West Asia region," the Iranian spokesperson stressed.
The US revealed last Monday that it is deploying an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean to the coast of Syria, as tensions between Tehran and Washington rise in the aftermath of deadly strikes on Iranian military advisors in the Arab country.
Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran's UN envoy, has previously warned that the Islamic Republic will take "decisive measures" to safeguard its forces and interests in Syria from any dangers posed by the US or others.
The US warship's redeployment occurred after President Joe Biden stated in March that the US was not seeking a battle with Iran.
Sabrina Singh, the Pentagon's deputy press secretary, also stated during a news conference that the carrier's evacuation was in reaction to what she claimed were escalating attacks on American service members in the region.
A few days later, the US announced the deployment of a nuclear-powered guided-missile submarine to the West Asian region to reinforce the US Fifth Fleet, which is stationed in Bahrain.
