Saudi team visiting Iran to discuss reopening diplomatic missions

According to reports, a group of Saudi technical officials has arrived in Iran to talk about the reopening of the kingdom's embassy in Tehran and its consulate in Mashhad.

Iran (IMNA) - The crew reportedly landed in Tehran on Saturday, only days after diplomatic ties between Tehran and Riyadh, which had been broken for the previous seven years, were formally reestablished.

A month after the two countries decided to resume diplomatic relations as part of an agreement mediated by China, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Saudi opposite number Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud met in the Chinese capital Beijing on Thursday.

Following the talk, the senior Iranian and Saudi diplomats jointly released a statement in which they emphasized the need of carrying out the historic reconciliation deal mediated by China in an effort to increase mutual trust and contribute to regional stability.

They pledged to eliminate any barriers standing in the way of deeper bilateral connections and decided to work together on any project that will advance regional security, stability, and national interests.

After seven years of estrangement, Iran and Saudi Arabia decided to reestablish diplomatic ties and reopen their embassies and diplomatic posts on March 10, after several days of talks backed by China.
