Iran, Saudi FMs ministers pushing for execution of reconciliation agreement to strengthen regional security

The top Iranian and Saudi diplomats emphasize the need of implementing a historic reconciliation accord negotiated by China in order to promote mutual trust and regional security.

Iran (IMNA) - Iran's Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Saudi Arabia's Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud underlined their willingness to remove any obstacles to the strengthening of bilateral ties in a joint statement released following a meeting in Beijing on Thursday.

The two sides also committed to expand cooperation in any area that can secure the region's security and stability, as well as the interests of its nations.

They also emphasized the need of dialogue on approaches to strengthen bilateral ties and launch a security cooperation agreement, as well as a general cooperation agreement in the domains of business, commerce, investment, technology, science, culture, sports, and youth.

Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed in their joint statement to reopen their embassies in Tehran and Riyadh, as well as consulate generals in Mashhad and Jeddah, by a certain time.

They also decided to maintain technical team cooperation between both countries in order to investigate restarting flights and visits by official delegations, and those from the business sector, as well as expediting visa processes for their residents, especially for the Umrah pilgrimage.

Considering the existing natural resources and economic capabilities that may be utilised to safeguard the two brotherly nations' mutual interests, the two sides decided to expand meetings and discussions to further realize the favorable possibilities in bilateral relations.

Amir-Abdollahian and Prince Faisal honored China for hosting Thursday's meeting.

Furthermore, they thanked Switzerland for its efforts to safeguard Iran's and Saudi Arabia's interests.

After seven years of estrangement, Iran and Saudi Arabia decided to reestablish diplomatic ties and reopen their embassies and diplomatic posts on March 10, after several days of intensive talks held in China.

Following the agreement's signing, Tehran and Riyadh issued a joint statement emphasizing the need to respect one another's national sovereignty and refrain from meddling in one another's internal affairs.
