Iran (IMNA) - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kan'ani said on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic's neighbor-based strategy considers "no exception" among neighboring countries, including Bahrain, which broke diplomatic ties with Iran in 2016.
Kan'ani stated to Iran's Arabic-language television news network al-Alam TV that one of the administration's priorities is to promote relations with regional nations, particularly Bahrain.
According to him, Iran's neighborliness strategy emphasizes strengthening ties with regional countries based on shared interests.
"In light of a promising future, we can expect to see the implementation of new conditions in ties with regional countries, particularly Bahrain."
"Bahrain is not an exception," he stated once more. "Fortunately, we are also observing positive diplomatic efforts in this direction. In this way, parliamentary diplomacy has practically been launched."
Bahrain severed diplomatic relations with Iran on January 4, 2016, following Saudi Arabia's move, when Iranian protesters stormed its diplomatic station in Iran, incensed by the Saudi government's death of famous Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr.
After many days of intense negotiations mediated by China, Iran and Saudi Arabia reached an agreement on Friday to re-establish diplomatic relations and re-open embassies and missions within two months.
