Iran, Uzbekistan to deepen relations

Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi has praised solid ties with Uzbekistan, adding that developing the policy of convergence with neighboring governments is one of his administration's top priorities.

Iran (IMNA) - "While the two countries have adopted good measures to deepen relations, given their mutual capacities, they should make more efforts to boost the level of connections," Raeisi said in a meeting with Uzbekistan's Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakhtiyor Saidov in Tehran on Sunday.

Pointing to his recent visit to Uzbekistan and the agreements established between the two countries in the cultural and economic domains, particularly in the commercial, transportation, and agriculture sectors, Iran's president asked both sides' ministries to expedite the execution of the accords.

The historical similarities and close linkages between the two countries' civilizations and cultures, according to Saidov, have led Tashkent to seek to improve relations with Tehran in all areas.

President Raeisi's visit to Samarkand, according to the acting Uzbek foreign minister, marked a new chapter in the history of the two nations' ties.

He added that Uzbekistan will do all possible to put the agreements already made between the two nations into effect.
