Isfahan to take "Preserving Trees" approach

Iran's Arbor Day is marked by the planting of trees and emphasizes caring for them as a way to sustainably protect cities’ natural resources.

Iran (IMNA)- Referring to the idea of changing the title of the annual event of "Arbor day" to "Preserving trees Day", the head of Isfahan's Islamic City Council Research Center wrote on his Instagram, "The urban trees of Isfahan should be consistently listed and the significance and value of each should be announced publicly to citizens and environmentalists because parts of our trees today are the only remaining heritage of Isfahan's gardens."

The post reads as follow, "A few months ago, during a meeting of the special commission for water and underserved areas, I proposed the idea of changing the title of the annual event of "Arbor day" to "Preserving trees day," which was welcomed by my colleagues in the Council and the Municipality, and these days, thanks to the efforts of the Parks and green spaces Organization,  this initiation is being planned,"

"Estimates reveal that about 3.5 million trees in the city of Isfahan are protected by citizens, government and municipality. Due to the climate change and the consequences of drought, our strategy should have focused years ago to preserve trees (especially old and valuable trees)," he wrote on Instagram.

National Arbor Day, is annually celebrated on the fifteenth day of Esfand, the last month on the Iranian calendar, which usually corresponds with March 5.

Many Iranian local authorities traditionally take the opportunity to organize tree-planting events and encourage people to take more care of plants and urban green spaces.
