Iran (IMNA) - First cases of poisoning reported in the holy city of Qom, where about 50 schoolgirls were admitted to hospitals after they got sick.
Similar poisonings have since occurred in numerous other Iranian schools in Qom, Tehran, Kermanshah in the west, and Ardabil in the northwest. Each incidence has ended in the hospitalization of some schoolgirls.
President Ebrahim Raeisi stated on Friday that the enemy is "trying to create tension and anxiety among students and parents so that anarchy is formed" as part of a psychological war.
“A day, the adversaries incite street unrest, and the next day, they try to create problems in the field of education and schools because despite all the plots, people across the country came to the scene and vanquished the enemy on February 11, when several million Iranians took to the streets to commemorate the 44th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, “Raeisi noted.
The president stated that he has directed his intelligence and interior ministers to investigate the matter as soon as possible and make their results public.
On Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian slammed Western governments for "shedding crocodile tears" over the poisonings.
"The intervening reaction of some Western authorities to the suspected poisoning of lovely Iranian female students is the continuation of the enemy's hybrid war," he wrote in a Twitter.
"The relevant authorities of the country are following up seriously and thoroughly investigating its dimensions. The great people of Iran are highly familiar with crocodile tears!"
His comments came after Germany declared that the circumstances behind the poisoning of Iranian schoolgirls should be thoroughly scrutinized by authorities.
