Iran’s sixth humanitarian aid cargo arrives in Syria

The sixth humanitarian aid cargo from Iran has arrived in Syria, where the crisis-stricken country is racing against the clock in rescue and relief efforts following devastating earthquakes.

Iran (IMNA) - According to Alireza Fadavi, Iran's cultural attaché in Damascus, the batch of humanitarian aid arrived on Friday at Latakia airport. He stated that this is the second cargo to Latakia in three days.

According to the counselor, the latest 19-ton relief shipment includes 5 tons of dates, 269 cartons of baby formula, 5 tons of rice, 500 pieces of mattresses, 90 tents, and some food packages.

Iran has already sent two humanitarian relief cargos to Damascus and two more to Aleppo in order to help those impacted by devastating earthquakes.

According to the most recent data, the death toll in the Turkey-Syria earthquakes has crossed 22,000. Many countries' rescue teams are working around the clock to pull people out of the rubble.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian underscored Iran’s readiness in a phone call with Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), on Thursday evening.

In light of western sanctions against the Arab country, he urged international organizations to pay closer attention to the dire situation there. He pointed out that as a result of the sanctions against the Syrian government, the situation for the Syrian people has drastically worsened following the earthquake.
