Iran (IMNA) - The number of accessible taxis in Isfahan is growing, but that doesn't help disabled users. Accessible vans provide safe and reliable transportation for users who want greater freedom and independence.
Getting in and out of a non-accessible vehicle can put both the disabled users and the caretakers at risk for injury. An accessible vehicle, especially equipped for transporting wheelchair users and visually impaired people, is the safest, most convenient and comfortable way to get people with disabilities on the road to errands, appointments, and good times anywhere. And people in wheelchairs have the choice of driving or enjoying the ride as a passenger.
"50 accessible vans have been purchased by the municipality of Isfahan, and they will be entered into the public transportation fleet without further ado to make public transport accessible for people living with disabilities," the mayor of Isfahan said.
"The incumbent urban management team will more seriously pursue the adaptation of the city in furtherance of the free movement of the disabled and the blind. To realize the measures, we intend to enforce the realization of the adaptation interventions in buildings," Ali Ghasemzadeh said in a meeting with the representatives and activists of the blind and disabled community.
He continued, "If the urban and citizenship culture is improved and people become familiar with their rights and duties, many challenges in this regard will be eliminated."
