Iran's capital hosts 1st intl. “women of influence” congress

The first international conference on powerful women was held in Tehran on Friday. Women from around 90 different nations are taking part in the two-day event, which is underway in the Iranian capital.

Iran (IMNA) - Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi addressed the congress and urged the women in attendance to learn from the Islamic Republic of Iran's experiences in regards to women's rights.

The purpose of the congress is to recognize, support, and develop the competencies and capacities of outstanding and powerful women on a national and worldwide scale.

Special worldwide recognition awards are planned for notable women in three fields: science and technology, economics, and social affairs.

The selection of "influential" women was based on criteria that took into account housewives, working women, female social activists, as well as qualified women in digital technology, social media, science and technology, entrepreneurship, and those who are trailblazers in fields like culture and humanitarianism.

On the suggestion of Iran's vice president for women and family, a memorandum of understanding between the nations that border Afghanistan is planned to be signed during this congress in order to support Afghan girls and women in their pursuit of higher education.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran’s minister of foreign affairs, said that the Islamic Republic is always worried about the status of women and children in war-torn countries throughout the world while addressing the international conference on women in Tehran.
