Isfahan to house super-maneuverable fighters

A number of Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets are expected to arrive in Iran early upcoming Iranian year.

Iran (IMNA) - In an interview with Tasnim, Shahriar Heidari, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, stated that Iran expects to receive a number of Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets from Russia, which will arrive in the country within three months under an agreement with Moscow.

According to the lawmaker, Iran has also ordered a number of other pieces of military hardware from Russia, including air defence systems, missile systems, and helicopters, the majority of which be delivered shortly.

According to media reports, Iran would receive 24 of the fourth-generation twin-engine, super-maneuverable fighter planes, which are primarily used for aerial supremacy operations.

Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force ( IRIAF) Tactical Air Base ( TAB) ۸ in the central Iranian city of Isfahan is expected to house some of the combat aircraft. A few Russian MiG-29 Fulcrum fighters that Iran bought in the 1990s are the only recent fighter purchases it has made.

In recent months, significant agreements have been reached between Iran and Russia to strengthen their economic, trade, energy, and military cooperation.
