Isfahan to reap the benefits of shared parking

Modern cities around the world suffer from parking problems. We all experience a waste of time circling around blocks in search for a parking space.

Iran (IMNA) - Failures in parking management lead to a greater dependence on the private automobile and more competition for available parking space.

The concept of shared parking is a creative development strategy that maximize parking capacity by allowing complementary land uses. Having separate parking facilities for each building often gives rise to empty hidden parking lots and heavy traffic. However, shared parking can mitigate the need for immediate on-site parking spaces and provide more space for pedestrian circulation.

"Resolving the issue of traffic and the lack of parking spaces in downtown Isfahan requires new solutions such as shared parking lots because the construction of parking spaces is a time-consuming process, and the Municipality will also come up against obstacles in this regard," the director of Isfahan's municipal district one Meysam Baktashian said.

Isfahan to reap the benefits of shared parking

Appreciating the round-the-clock efforts made by the traffic enforcers in regulating road users and enforcing traffic laws, Director General of Executive Affairs of Isfahan Municipality's Deputy Department for Traffic and Transport Hamid Aghaei noted, "the Deputy office is always hunting for the implementation of scientific projects in order to address the city's traffic congestion, and measures will be put into effect soon. We will practice new initiatives in selected regions on a trial basis."

For dense urban area, the implementation of shared parking solution has been an innovative parking management strategy. This approach is demonstrated to maximize space utilization.

The initial step to put a shared parking management strategy in effect is to identify potential places. Most often, public-private partnerships seems reasonable, since a parking structure can shift to public use once a business closes.

Parking owners of buildings such as schools, hotels, markets, and etc. can rent out their parking spaces at times they don’t use it. This strategy allows drivers to avoid the long search for empty parking spaces, and it helps them to get these spaces at better prices, compared to regular parking tariffs.
