Universal Hour of Peace

Set intention and focus by building peaceful relations locally, nationally and internationally on this day and throughout the year. Get the year started off on the right foot by observing and paying heed to the Universal Hour of Peace.

Iran (IMNA) - Beginning just 30 minutes before the clock strikes twelve on New Year’s Eve and ending at 12:30 am on January 1, the Universal Hour of Peace is celebrated in each time zone, rendering it a full 24 hour day of celebration all throughout the world.

History of Universal Hour of Peace

For more than two decades, individuals and groups of people around the globe have been joining together to celebrate peace and, at the same time, calling the people of the world to live at peace. Conceived of by Dr. Barabara Condron from the School of Metaphysics, the first Universal Hour of Peace was celebrated in 1995.

Although the first year’s celebration took place on October 24, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the United Nations, the following year the day was moved to December 31 and January 1, where it has been celebrated annually ever since.

How to Celebrate Universal Hour of Peace

Join in on the peace and unity of the Universal Hour of Peace that can be celebrated in all of the time zones around the globe, and consider implementing some of these ideas for celebration:

Engage with a Peace Vigil

Whether joining in for just the one hour or making a longer experience out of it, a peace vigil with other like-minded people might be the perfect place to celebrate the Universal Hour of Peace. The School of Metaphysics hosts peace vigils in many different cities throughout the United States each year.

Perhaps join in with a group of those who are taking a silent retreat, or simply engage in some personal meditation practices. Or start a peace vigil of your own by inviting friends to a time of quiet contemplation together. Whether people have been practicing meditation for many years or they are novices, the Universal Hour of Peace is the ideal time to join others in unity for the day.

Read and Share Some Quotes About Peace

Whether reading them out loud as a toast for a New Year’s Eve party or sharing them on social media, sometimes even just a short but thoughtful quote can encourage someone toward peace and unity. Maybe a quote would help them to slow down and think or it might activate them to do something in the name of peace.
