Iran (IMNA) - As one of the Iran’s great cities, Isfahan has evolved over centuries to deliver the housing, transport and infrastructure it needs.
Against a global backdrop of accelerating urbanization and digital transformation in Iran, the Municipality of Isfahan has set out its ambition to make the city as Iran's smartest city. Today, Isfahan is already a hub for smart urban solutions.
The city is transforming its public services to better meet the needs of its citizens. Isfahan has long been recognized as a leader in mobilizing open data for public benefit.
"Isfahan was the first city in the Middle East that featured a smart intersection by installing the intelligent traffic control system in 1990. The city also took advantage of the first computerized traffic signal systems functioning in an interconnected networked approach," Homayoun Yazdan-Panah, the advisor and assistant to the Mayor of Isfahan in smart urban initiatives said regarding the city's measures on providing intelligent services to citizens.
He added, "Due to the fact that such smart systems will not properly function if the traffic rules are not observed, one should bear in mind that the main problem when using intelligent systems is the cultural and social behaviors together with tools and technology. In fact, an intelligent system would operate correctively if standard traffic conditions are provided by all stakeholders such as pedestrians or bike citizens adhering the rules."
"Based on the instructions issued by the government years ago together with the outbreak of COVID-19, the need to develop smart urban services called the "Municipal Desks for Electronic Services" was realized so that people could take advantage of them remotely using the Internet and virtual networks, " Yazdan-Panah noted.
"This movement started to spread out in all Iranian urban administrations and also made headway toward the Municipality of Isfahan, the evidence of which is the150 electronic services for citizens. The challenge in this regard is that services have not been fully available to the public; however, it has been ordained to offer majority of the services till the end of February 2023, " the advisor and assistant to the Mayor of Isfahan in smart urban initiatives said.
