Iran (IMNA) - City leaders across the world are making efforts to promote a people-oriented, integrated and sustainable vision of urban development and regeneration by implementing a comprehensive Neighborhood Approach in urban decision making. The Neighborhood Approach is a pathway for cities to initiate transformation, boost inclusiveness, and ensure equal access to urban resources and opportunities. Citizens should be encouraged to collaboratively create thriving communities by perusing the Neighborhood-centered approach.
Practising the urban distributive justice measures in less-advantaged areas within a city will result in connected, dynamic, and vibrant neighborhoods. This transformation of urban areas is expected to lead to an increase in equality of opportunities.
Saying that Neighborhood-Oriented Policing is popular among city authorities, the Mayor of Isfahan Ali Ghasemzade noted, "pundits in our country hold strong opinions on reforming the political framework of city councils as they believe that local socio-cultural councils of Isfahan's neighborhoods should be developed and the heads of each quarter must become the members of regional council so that the city’s council would be the demonstration of all region's involvement."
Emphasizing that neighborhood councils will provide more opportunities for citizens' participation, Ghasemzade said, “such frameworks will boost sense of belonging to local community, which is much stronger than urban belonging. If a neighborhood is flourished, the level of citizens’ participation also increased."
The Mayor of Isfahan emphasized that the importance of spatial justice in the distribution of public services and remarked, “If every neighborhood enjoys its own local park and hosts cultural events, then intra-city trips will be decreased and this is the indication of fair distribution of urban resources."
Referring to the Neighborhood Oriented Policing, the Mayor of Isfahan said, “262 construction, refurbishment, economic development, entrepreneurship, and socio-cultural projects have been defined for 30 neighborhoods in the city, which include road improvement, removing traffic bottleneck, sidewalk construction, creation of sports fields for children, and designing local parks."
