Iran (IMNA) - Pointing out that the sister cities relationship is one of the most important matters grabbed attention in the field of international affairs of municipalities, Hamed Soltani noted, "the sister cities partnership is one of the international agreements that has been used as an official protocol to enhance the interaction and communication of different cities across the world."
He clarified, "The town- twinning is developed with various goals and subjects and can be considered as one of the obvious manifestations of urban diplomacy."
Director of Communications and International Affairs Department of Yazd Municipality went on to say that, "In our country, various cities have entered into forming sister cities agreements with their counterparts in other countries; sister cities share similarities mainly in cultural, economic and scientific fields."
He added, "Despite the fruitful goals that have been considered for Yazd's sister cities, these agreements have not been realized yet."
Soltani clarified, "in the light of the importance of taking full advantage of this capacity, Yazd province has been designated as the responsible body for drafting the bylaws of sister cities in the last meeting of the Public Relations Committee of Iran's Metropolitan Assembly. The process of preparing the preliminary version of the regulations has been started at the end of last year. "
"The process of compiling this regulation is currently underway, and according to the investigations and measures taken, its preparation has reached the final stages," he continued.
The head of the International Working Group and Urban Diplomacy of the Public Relations Committee of Iran's Metropolitan Assembly stressed, "After the completion of drafting, the rule-book will be sent to the Communications Committee of the Metropolitan Assembly, so that it will be referred to all the metropolises by the mayor of Tehran and the head of the Assembly. "
