Ramadan Nocturn rite to be revived

The religious rite of Ramadan Nocturn (Sahouri khani), which is one of the Iran's ancient ordinances, has been revived and recreated during the holy month of Ramadan by the specialized National Center for Arts and Rituals of Isfahan Municipality's Department for Cultural, Social and Sports affairs.

Iran (IMNA) - Referring to holding the religious rite of Ramadan Nocturn in Isfahan's neighborhoods during Ramadan 2022, Mansour Ghorbani, the director of the National Center for Arts and Rituals said, "on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, we tried to revive the ordinance."

He considered cantillation, intoned liturgical recitation of scriptural texts and various prayers as parts of the Ramadan Nocturn and added, "The Ramadan Nocturn was performed both individually and in groups in various neighborhoods, alleys and passages. In Ramadan this year, a team of 20 people has been formed to perform the Nocturn during the holy Ramadan's afternoons and nights."

Ghorbani continued, "This initiative has been started on the 5th of April, equal to the third day of the holy month of Ramadan, and will be run every afternoon at 18:45 as well as every afternoon at 20:15."

Referring to holding the Ramadan Nocturn program in different areas of Isfahan, he said, "Sahouri khani had been performed in Isfahan until about 30 years ago; however, it has unfortunately been forgotten for years, and we do not have a guru who can perform it voluntarily. "

The director of the National Center for Ritual Arts of Isfahan Municipality's Cultural, Social and Sports Organization, stated, "Sahourikhani singers recite aloud with a stentorophonic voice and have a good command of various prayers, and most of them are also familiar with the Radifs of music."

The director of the National Center for Arts and Rituals pointed out, "This center intends to monthly revive and perform one or two rituals proportional to any month by the efforts of the Isfahan Municipality's Social, Cultural and Sports Organization and the Ritual Arts Council."
