Iran (IMNA) - "Cherishing the elderly rooted in our culture and the Iranian people always pay tribute to seniors," Ali Ghasemzadeh said in a joint meeting with the representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
He continued, " Social and emotional support from family members is the best possible help as whenever the family institution is weakened, the position of the elderly would be exposed to danger."
The mayor of Isfahan said, "The matter of senior citizens is much too important that we tend to make Isfahan known as an exemplary model of respect for the elderly."
Saying that there are some parks in Isfahan's neighborhoods that are considered as daily hangouts for the elderly, he said, "Beside the public parks, special green spaces such as the Garden of Experience has been made publicly available for seniors."
"Urban management system's focus has been on neighborhood-centered city and in this regard, with a view based on sustainable development, the Municipality will improve the standard of living in the neighborhoods," Ghasemzadeh noted.
"The adaptation of neighborhoods for the elderly is on the agenda; in a four-year period, all neighborhoods in Isfahan will undergo regeneration."
He expressed hope that, "the Municipality will share its experiences in this process, and if there is any backgrounds concerning sustainable development in the United Nations, we would like to take benefit of it."
The mayor of Isfahan, emphasizing that development of neighborhoods will be achieved with the participation of citizens, said, "Part of the social network formed by the Municipality in neighborhoods can be allocated to the elderly and we can take advantage of their experiences to expand quarters."
The mayor of Isfahan emphasized, "Public diplomacy is taken seriously in Isfahan Municipality and we try to avail ourselve of the opportunity for communication between non-governmental organizations to expand and facilitate relations."
