Iran (IMNA) - "In the near future, we will witness that the elderly population in our country and city continues to grow at an unprecedented rate," he said.
Mehravipour pointed out, "What we are looking for is a culture building approach in order to honor the dignity of the elderly, and added to that, we will provide the facilities and policies to the families. We will bring forth the suitable conditions for a better life to the elderly."
Rasoul Mirbagheri, a member of the Islamic City Council of Isfahan, noted, "The municipality has many cultural centers that can be devoted to the elderly. Furthermore, a Senior Special Discount Card could be allocated to this group for their daily commutes."
Isfahan Municipality Deputy Mayor for Urban Planning added, "We should play the roles of leaders and policy makers, then allow the elderly to be involved in urban decisions for themselves.They are the main players in the field of urban management regarding age-friendly cities."
He continued, "Municipal activities respecting seniors have been going on for many years. One of the measures that can be fruitful in this area is to increase places such as the Garden of Experience."
Stressing that the elderly are one of the beneficiaries of the citizen prestige card, the head of the Social Affairs Department of the Social and Cultural Organization of Isfahan Municipality pointed out, "About six thousand elderly people use the citizen prestige card."
Mahdavian added, "in order to obtain the award in the Age-Friendly City Appreciation Scheme, there should be a basic pilot research and adaptation in the fields of culture, health and wellness in tourism axis of Chaharbagh and various neighbourhoods."
Emphasizing that a city that is suitable for the elderly has also been adapted for women and children, even the disabled, he added, "Urban Services for the elderly have been implemented in Isfahan for more than seven years; so, winning the Age Friendly City Award is just a brand for Isfahan."
