Ali Ghasemzadeh becomes Isfahan mayor

Ali Ghasemzadeh has been elected as the mayor of Isfahan winning an absolute majority of votes by the ballots of Isfahan Islamic city council's representatives.

Iran (IMNA) - Mayor-council leadership is one of the urban governance approaches executed in cities and towns throughout the Islamic republic of Iran. Mayor-council governance generally highlights an elected executive director called a mayor and an elected local legislature that is most often termed as the Islamic city council.

The Islamic city council has the power to prepare and adopt city strategies and the city's chief administrative officer is accountable for implementation of the approved policies.

The members of the council sets policies, passes laws, determines what sorts of services the municipality will offer and supervise all other statutory aspects of municipal government.

The elected leader of a city in a Mayor-Council governance has the right to appoint and remove the head of municipal departments. The highest-ranking official in a municipal government is officially responsible for representing the city on the provincial, national and international levels. The mayor is authorized to make terms and bring off all municipal contracts like partnership agreements of sister cities in the name of the city or town.

The elected mayor in charge monitors the various administrative bodies that are concerned with that city’s routine operations. The leader should prepares and administers the city budget, although that budget often must be passed by the Islamic city council. The mayor also put the local laws and ordinances of the city into practice.

The newly elected mayor of Isfahan, Ali Ghasemzadeh, has a Bachelor's degree in theology from the University of Tehran, and holds a PhD in Counselling Psychology from the University of Isfahan.

He has previously been Isfahan's Deputy Mayor for Culture Affaris as well as the Advisor to the CEO of the Art and Cultural Organization of the Municipality of Tehran.
