Iran (IMNA) - The spokesperson of the country’s health ministry, Sima Sadat Lari, said that 172 more Iranians have lost their lives due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) over the past 24 hours taking the country’s tally of total deaths to 63,332.
13,890 new coronavirus infections were detected over the past 24 hours, of whom 2,048 have been hospitalized, Sadat Lari said.
There have been nearly 1,945,964 confirmed cases of coronavirus so far in Iran, 1,658,978 of the cases cured or discharged from the hospitals.
The all-out-efforts of Iranian officials have focused on taking measures to curb the outbreak and prevent further spread.
According to Worldometers, total cases of COVID-19 worldwide have surpassed 131,985,438 million and the global deaths from the virus have also surged at least 2,867,410 million; however, more than 106,288,363 million people have recovered.
Due to the reports on the staggering high death, Iranian authorities have blamed some people for shutting their eyes on health protective measures.
High transmission rates and the rapid spread of new variants require Iran's health bodies to get back to basic steps that are known to combat the Coronavirus, such as testing and isolation, along with social distancing and quarantine. Iranian officials need to do more to re-engage with local communities and counter pandemic fatigue.
