Iran (IMNA) - Concerning the series of remote meetings of the mayor of Isfahan with Iranian ambassadors to the sister countries and the results of these meetings, Iman Hojati said, "Since the Coronavirus pandemic has affected global communications, the Municipality of Isfahan has turned this threat into an opportunity; since March last year, we have promoted coronavirus-centered diplomacy as well as crisis management in the General Directorate of Communications and International Affairs of the municipality of Isfahan."
He added, "In this context, efforts have been made to put plans and measures on the agenda, while maintaining and developing previous communications, as well as activating upcoming plans."
The Director General of the Center for Communications and International Affairs of Isfahan Municipality pointed out, "One of the leading projects which has been carried out in this regard is titled "Citizen Diplomat" that serves the purpose of using the international potential of Isfahani citizens living in sister cities."
He continued, "In the Islamic Republic of Iran, all international communications are defined and carried out under the supervision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the embassies and ambassadors are headed by the Ministry which hold the responsibilities for facilitating relations in various fields, including official, economic and cultural domains."
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has a tipping role for developing relations with sister cities because it can advance communication and activities; Therefore, we came up with the idea that the mayor of Isfahan would have distance meetings with all the ambassadors of the Islamic Republic of Iran in different countries to resolve many issues that may bogged down in the administrative bureaucracy," Hojati noted.
Remarking that the series of virtual meetings of the mayor of Isfahan with the ambassadors of the sister countries is held every Wednesday, and has brought good results so far, he added, "Recently we had a joint distant meeting with the mayor of Florence on account of which it was decided to stage the Isfahan and Florence Art Festival virtually, and to transfer Florence's experiences in the field of tramway system to Isfahan."
