Isfahan welcomes first urban pocket park

"Pocket parks are urban open spaces on small-scales that provide a safe and peaceful environment for citizens to enjoy their community; however, their importance has been neglected in urban park design and planning," Forogh Mortazaeinezhad said.

Iran (IMNA) - Emphasizing the need to move towards the implementation of pocket parks, she added, "The first pocket park in Isfahan has been launched on the edge of Khalaja Street (in the Municipal District One) with the aim of strengthening the cultural, social and historical features of the city.

The managing director of the Parks and Green Space Organization of Isfahan Municipality continued, "One of the benefits of the Khalja pocket park is maintaining the value of the old urban runlet in this district and representing the historical dimensions of the 80-year-old Platanus tree there."

"A book titled Pocket Park Design will be published soon by the Parks and Green Space Organization of Isfahan Municipality that includes concepts such as designing mini parks and maintaining parkette in countries across the world as well as the successful examples implemented in Isfahan," Mortezaiinezhad noted.

Emphasizing that the development of parks as green zones in the city with the aim of increasing social interactions in unused urban spaces, is on the agenda of the Organization, she ended, "Three pocket parks are being designed and implemented in different municipal districts of the city; parkette is a new solution in developing the city's green space, providing educational platforms and promoting citizenship culture at the lowest cost."
