Iran (IMNA) - Mohammad Javad Omidi noted, "Maintaining scientific communication with the outside world is one of the inevitable requirements for academic activities. Participation in international forums, exchange of views in scientific fields and contribution in research-based projects are the main factors to earning academic achievements in higher education institutions of the country."
He added, "Such scientific activities in the international arena are known as science diplomacy in which individuals and nations get closer to each other in the field of science, education and research, then find a common language to build constructive international partnerships."
The Vice President of Isfahan University of Technology for International Affairs and Technology Development went on to say that, "The initiative of the Municipality of Isfahan to define the concept of "Citizen of diplomat" is a valuable move that connects inter-collaborations beyond other scientific domains to other fields. The measures that the municipality is undertaking to back the plan will bring scientific, cultural and economic exchanges between Isfahan and its sister cities."
Omidi added, "In the current progression of COVID-19 outbreak, international interactions in the form of work trips have become restricted; moreover, people turning to take advantage of online communications can make contact with a wider range of people at a much lower cost."
He continued, "As things currently stand, by taking the initiative in holding virtual events with the attendance of foreign partners in sister cities, effective measures can be adopted to bring people closer to each other, create common interest and areas of cooperation in keeping with this international diplomacy."
